2007 was the 300th anniversary of the Acts of Union – two Acts of Parliament that united the kingdoms of England and Scotland. The two nations had been ruled by the same monarch since 1603 but in 1707 they became the Kingdom of Great Britain. This silver proof Two Pound coin is a celebration of this momentous moment in British history and features a design by Yvonne Holton that symbolises the union. In it, an interlinked, quartered jigsaw design is overlaid with a thistle and rose which appear to grow from the same root. Portcullises, signifying Parliament, appear in two of the quarters. The edge reads ‘UNITED INTO ONE KINGDOM’. This coin is struck to proof standard in 12.00 grams of .925 sterling silver with a gold plated outer ring. The certificate of authenticity in its original presentation box indicates that it is one of 8,310 issued.
