Peter Rabbit returned to UK coinage for the fifth time in 2020, with this edition being a brilliant uncirculated 50 Pence coin. What’s most notable about this coin is that no ordinary circulation version was released, meaning you won’t be able to find it in your change. The sprawling collection has seen coins in a range of finishes featuring the author and illustrator’s most beloved characters, including several starring Peter Rabbit, perhaps the most famous character from her works. The mischievous young rabbit was first featured in The Tale of Peter Rabbit, published in 1901, one of several picture books written by Potter. In this 2020 coin he’s seen sneaking under Mr McGregor’s garden gate, in search of lettuces. He’ll come to regret this after being chased by the garden’s owner. The reverse for this highly collectable 50p is the work of Royal Mint designer Emma Noble, who took inspiration from the original illustrations. Noble has worked on all the Beatrix Potter coins since the first release of them in 2016, and her designs have proven very popular with coin collectors all over the world. Her designs are paired with Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II which appears on the obverse side of this 50p. This Royal Mint coin weighs 8.00 grams and measures 27.30 millimetres in diameter. It’s struck twice during production to give a brilliant uncirculated finish, giving it a superior finish to the coins typically found in your change. As standard, you’ll receive your coin encapsulated in a limited edition coin sleeve, full of interesting details about Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter.
