In Cambodia, the largest population of Asian elephant occurs in the Eastern Plains Landscape of Mondulkiri province, home to one of Southeast Asia’s last remaining elephant corridors. They have been identified as endangered in Cambodia according to the WWF, mostly due to poaching for ivory.

The Asia Big Five series features the animals that are endangered in Cambodia, primarily due to poachers. The largest population of Asian elephants live in the eastern plains landscape of the Mondulkiri province in Cambodia. Female Asian elephants do not have tusks, making them less vulnerable to ivory poachers.

Obverse: Depicts Angkor Wat along with “KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA”, the year and legal tender denomination

Reverse: Colorized depiction of an Asian Elephant walking in the forest. At the edge of the coin are the inscriptions  “ASIAN ELEPHANT”, “1 oz” and the fineness ” 999 FINE SILVER “.
